James Revill presented elements of the S&T Reviews project at a meeting on “Biosecurity, Biosafety, Human Capital and the Seventh Review Conference of the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention”, which was organised by the Landau Network-Centro Volta and took place between November 18 and 19 on Lake Como, Italy. The presentation, which was part of a panel discussion on science and technology reviews under the BWC, generated a lively discussion with a number of issues addressed including: the need to address positive developments in science and technology under the Biological Weapons Convention; the role of scientists and other stakeholders in monitoring and responding to developments in S&T of relevance to the Convention; the relationship between the Chemical Weapons Convention and the Biological Weapons Convention; and the role of producers of DNA sequences in regulating access to certain sequences.
