Examining the role of Science and Technology reviews in the Biological Weapons Convention
At the request of the Preparatory Committee, the Implementation Support Unit (ISU) prepared a ‘background information document on new scientific and technological developments relevant to the Convention’ which draws from information submitted by States Parties and relevant international organisations. This background document provides an overview of general trends in science and technology before turning attention to the positive and negative implications of developments in S&T for the Convention and the role that enabling technologies play in understanding, characterising and manipulating biological systems.
