The Government of the Philippines hosted a week long BWC Conference, dubbed “Superweek”, in Manila. Part of the week’s discussion included a Seminar on Issues for the Seventh Review Conference of the Biological Weapons Convention, which was co-organised with the Australian Government. The summary of this seminar includes a section on S&T in which several participants were reported as supporting more frequent reviews of science and technology. The summary continues to report that: “the suggestion that there be annual reviews was highlighted, with some support for an open ended meeting of scientific experts rather than a scientific advisory board or panel. It was suggested that the Inter Academy Panel and other international scientific societies could contribute to such a process.”
