RoSBNet Synthetic Biology Workshop 2011

21st July 2011

James Revill presented a paper on synthetic biology and dual use education to the RoSBNet Synthetic Biology Workshop 2011, held at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford. The presentation drew on aspects of the HSP S&T reviews project, particularly the case study data, to illustrate the geographical spread of synthetic biology, before looking at some of the implications for dual use education. In addition to gaining an insight into some of the research being undertaken in the field of synthetic biology, the workshop was a useful opportunity to engage with practicing synthetic biologists and get their views on the Biological Weapons Convention and whether they considered their research as being of relevance to this Convention.
