Rapporteurs’ summary of the International Workshop on Trends in S&T Relevant to the BWC

The US National Research Council published a rapporteurs’ summary of the presentations and discussions from the international workshop, Trends in Science and Technology Relevant to the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention, held in Beijing, October 31st - November 3rd, 2010. This workshop was convened in cooperation with the Chinese Academy of Sciences; IAP the Global Network of Science Academies; the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology; the International Union of Microbiological Societies; and the National Research Council and brought together 80 scientists and policy makers from 28 countries and several international organizations to discuss trends in the life sciences and their implications for the Convention.

The rapporteurs’ summary covers a number of specific areas of science including: bioinformatics and computational tools, systems biology, synthetic biology, bioreactors and transgenic animals, neuroscience, aerosols, nanostructured delivery systems for drugs and bioforensics.
