Caitríona McLeish attended an International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Conference in Spiez, Switzerland, on the ‘Impact of Scientific Developments on the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC)'.

Spiez, Switzerland - Acting as a rapporteur, Caitriona McLeish attended an International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Conference in Spiez, Switzerland, on the ‘Impact of Scientific Developments on the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC)’. This meeting was jointly organized on behalf of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) by IUPAC, SPIEZ Laboratories and the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS) and brought together 80 scientists and other stakeholders to discuss science and technology with potential ramifications for the CWC. Specific areas of discussion included “the increasing convergence of chemistry and biology” and findings are to be used to inform discussion in the Third Review Conference of the Chemical Weapons Convention, which is scheduled for 2013.
